WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO INNOVATE?
To listen to your heart, go with your gut, and redefine an entire industry?
We think it takes patience. Determination. And the willingness to trip and fall. Innovation always finds a way. It gets up at 5AM. Sometimes 4. It’s not opposed to all-nighters. Or eating breakfast at 2AM. Innovation dreams big and figures stuff out bigger. It never gives up. Innovation is fidgety and squirmy and always looking to see what’s next.
It’s curious. And surprising. And likes to figure things out. Innovation is what we do because it’s all we know. It’s why we push for the thrill of what’s next. It’s what we’ve done for the past twenty years. And what we’ll continue to do in our relentless pursuit to find everywhere.
20 Years of Innovation
-
The year was 2015 when amateur radio operators were introduced to radio freedom. In the past, amateur radio operators were required to be in front of their physical set-up to engage. With the introduction of Maestro, the cord was cut, allowing the operator to connect with their radio from anywhere on their local area network (LAN).

In 2004, the HF Radio industry was turned on its head completely. A category first, Software Defined Radio allowed consumers to update new versions of their software without having to upgrade their hardware. Finally, a way to never outgrow your radio again.

The year was 2004 when operators were afforded a whole new sensory experience that would include the visualization of the ham bands. In the past, operators relied only on their auditory senses. Now, with the computer and monitor paired with the radio software (a.k.a. The *lass Radio), a multi-dimensional ham radio experience was brought to life.

In 2019, amateur radio operators were reminded how innovation strengthens community. With the introduction of multiFLEX in SmartSDR, the radio experience became sharable among inner circles. For example, if you have a buddy that is antenna restricted, they can now share your radio through the use of a Maestro from their QTH connected over the Internet. Proof that the more we share, the more we have.

In 2004, the advent of PowerSDR and the follow-on introduction of SmartSDR in 2017, changed one thing: everything. With the ability to now update old hardware via new software, users could suddenly upgrade their existing radios to make them feel new again. Another way FlexRadio simplified the user experience, keeping operators engaged and up-to-date at all times.

In 2016, the availability of SmartSDR for iOS® changed the industry and made it so radio enthusiasts could fit HF radio in their back pockets. With software designed to work on any device with iOS, iPhones® and iPads® immediately became HF-friendly.

In 2017, simplification of use was taken to a whole new level. With the introduction of SmartLink, the operating experience became simplified. This revolutionary feature allowed operators more radio freedom and to connect from anywhere in the world. If you have an Internet connection, you can be on the air from anywhere!

In 2016, it became apparent that “rediscovering the oy of radio” was a pretty good mission for the already devoted community of operators and HAM lovers. With innovations and upgrades leading the charge, FlexRadio continued to be fueled and inspired by the desire to enrich people’s lives through HAM radio.
