FLEX-5000: Demonstration of the PowerSDR Filters

FLEX-5000: Demonstration of the PowerSDR Filters

FlexFlick Rating:

This is a fantastic video from Lee W9OY showing exactly how phenomenal the DSP filtering is in a FlexRadio Systems software defined radio. Using a narrow band XO, the ability to dynamically set the filters using the Panadapter is display in detail. This video is a must see!

FLEX-5000: Demonstration of the FLEX-5000 Antenna Configuration

FLEX-5000: Demonstration of the FLEX-5000 Antenna Configuration

FlexFlick Rating:

Lee, W9OY describes the versatility of the FLEX-5000 antenna selection capabilities and how he uses it at his QTH. This demo shows how the antenna selector is utilized with a RX2 installed. There is a nice view of the rear panel to provide a comprehensive demonstration of how the different antenna configuration possibilities.

FLEX-5000: Demonstration of Synchronous Diversity Reception- Beam Steering

FLEX-5000: Demonstration of Synchronous Diversity Reception- Beam Steering

FlexFlick Rating:

This is truly an amazing demonstration of synchronous diversity reception, a feature that only the FLEX-5000 with an RX2 installed has in the amateur radio market. This not not simple stereo diversity using two receivers where the frequency is locked. The FLEX-5000 with the RX2 is a completely synchronous dual receiver system that allows for the enhancement or nulling of signals by manipulating the phase and gain from a signal diverse receiver to essentially provide a beam steering functionality in software. You will not believe it until you actually see it in action.

FLEX-5000 Feature Overview and Comparison to IC-756 Pro III

FLEX-5000 Feature Overview and Comparison to IC-756 Pro III

FlexFlick Rating:

Without a doubt, this video from Burt, K1OIK describing the FLEX-5000 hardware and PowerSDR software features is a must see! Burt has produced a block buster with his first video expose of the FLEX-5000. Along with an over view of the FLEX-5000 hardware and basic operational aspects of PowerSDR, this video compares and contrasts the FLEX-5000 with the Icom 756 Pro III and Heathkit DX-40. The content is excellent and the presentation is entertaining as well as enlightening.

Detailed Feature Description of PowerSDR and the FLEX-5000A

Detailed Feature Description of PowerSDR and the FLEX-5000A

FlexFlick Rating:

"The bus came by and I got on, that is when it all began..."
This is another excellent video from Burt, K1OIK describing in detail various features of PowerSDR when used with a FLEX-5000. In this video, the ALC, 10-band EQ, monitor function, display scope, power settings for QRP operation and the use of transmit profiles are explored in detail. On a lighter note, Burt investigates the possibility of working stations in the past using an undocumented feature that warps RF space-time.

More Feature Demonstrations of the FLEX-5000A and PowerSDR

FlexFlick Rating:

Burt, K1OIK is cooking up another tasty FLEX-5000 dish in the kitchen with this video. In the latest installment of entertaining videos from K1OIK, Bert delves into the some of the audio processing features of PowerSDR such as the noise gate, compander and the DX version of the commander along with a nice demonstration of the scope feature. The ability to operate digital modes without the need of an external interface to connect the radio to a PC sound card is explored using the VAC or virtual audio channel capabilities of PowerSDR. Last be not least, you are treated to a delicious helping of FDR (no, that isn't a typo).

Instalación del PowerSDR 2.x del FLEX-1500 en 5 minutosl

Instalación del PowerSDR 2.x del FLEX-1500 en 5 minutosl

FlexFlick Rating:

This very informative "how to" video by Salvador, EA3BKZ shows how to set up and install a FLEX-1500 with PowerSDR v2.x in 5 minutes! A very informative and well presented video (en Español) .

Basic Tuning Operations using the PowerSDR 1.x Panadapter

Basic Tuning Operations using the PowerSDR 1.x Panadapter

FlexFlick Rating:

This very informative "how to" video by Matt, KD5FGE describes in great detail the PowerSDR console and Panadapter and its components.  Matt also shows how one uses a mouse to tune a software defined radio using the various different methods provided by PowerSDR along with adjusting receive filters "on the fly" creating user defined filters.

Remote Operation with PowerSDR Videos

FlexRadio Remote Operation Demo featuring W3JK - Part I

FlexRadio Remote Operation Demo featuring W3JK - Part I

FlexFlick Rating:

Ken, W3JK does a wonderful job presenting the remote access capabilities of PowerSDR 1.x using a small Sony Vaio® UX Micro PC with a Sprint mobile broadband wireless Internet access card from his back yard.  He uses a combination of Skype and VNC for transferring the audio between the SDR PC and the remote PC and to remotely control the PC connected to the software defined radio in the shack.

FlexRadio Remote Operation Demo featuring W3JK - Part II

FlexRadio Remote Operation Demo featuring W3JK - Part I

FlexFlick Rating:

Every great movie deserves an equally fabulous sequel and Ken, W3JK does not disappoint.  In this squeal, a larger laptop is used so you can get a better view of the remote operating capabilities.  The undisputed highlight of this movie is when the viewer is treated to successful  DX QSO with Ray, EA3CXG in Spain.  The great audio report for the FlexRadio transceiver was an unsolicited added bonus.  This video is a "must see" for anyone interested remote operation with PowerSDR 1.x

Operating Digital Modes with PowerSDR Videos

Digital Mode Setup with VAC for PowerSDR 1.x by WA5QPZ - Part I

Digital Mode Setup with VAC for PowerSDR 1.x by WA5QPZ - Part I

FlexFlick Rating:

This is a "how to" instructional video presented by Dudley, WA5QPZ on how to setup PowerSDR using VAC for operating digital modes using MixW.  The step-by-step instructions on how to configure PowerSDR 1.x for digital mode operation is excellent.  The cinematography quality is a bit poor due to image format conversions, but you can still make out the modifications Dudley describes as he steps through the setup process.

Digital Mode Setup for PowerSDR 1.x by WA5QPZ - Part II

Digital Mode Setup with VAC for PowerSDR 1.x by WA5QPZ - Part II

FlexFlick Rating:

This is the second part of the instructional video of how to configure PowerSDR and a FlexRadio transceiver for operating sound card based digital modes.

Setting up PowerSDR and the FLEX-5000 for Digital Modes using VAC

Setting up PowerSDR and the FLEX-5000 for Digital Modes using VAC

FlexFlick Rating:

If you ever wanted to know how to configure PowerSDR to operate digital modes then you have chosen the correct video. Burt, K1OIK, provides another excellent "step-by-step" instructional video on how to configure VAC (Virtual Audio Cable), which is the software that allows PowerSDR to communicate directly with digital mode sound card programs without using any audio cables. There is no slight of hand or misdirection here. Using VAC with PowerSDR is the easiest and highest performance method for working digital modes and no other radio on the market can provide an internal direct digital exchange of audio between the radio and any sound card based program.
